Los Angeles, CA (February 22, 2023) – The two men who were killed in a crash involving a Los Angeles Metro Blue line train have been identified by authorities. The crash originally occurred on Monday, February 21st around 6:00 p.m.
At that time, authorities were dispatched to the scene in the 1600 block of East 24th Street. According to reports, a vehicle with five occupants was traveling southbound. The driver made a left turn in front of the oncoming train, causing a collision. Two passengers were trapped inside the vehicle when rescue workers arrived. One of the individuals died at the scene while the second was pronounced dead at a local hospital. Police later identified the men as 46-year-old Marvin Padilla and 40-year-old Jose Maradiaga Hernandez.
Three other injured victims, including the driver, were transported to a local hospital with serious injuries. It is not believed that any other victim suffered life-threatening injuries. There were approximately 125 passengers aboard the train at the time of the collision, but none were injured.
Police are still investigating the crash at this time and are looking to determine whether the crossing signals were activated when the accident happened.
