Los Angeles, CA – UPDATE: Ken Balayev Identified in Fatal Crash on 110 Fwy.
Los Angeles, CA (May 27, 2023) – The victim of a wrong-way crash in Los Angeles has now been identified by authorities. The crash occurred on Friday, May 26th, around 3:00 a.m. on the 110 Freeway near Exposition Boulevard.
According to a report from the California Highway Patrol, 71-year-old Ken Balayev was operating a taxi on the 110 Freeway when a 23-year-old female driver crossed the center line. The woman’s Chevrolet Cruze collided head-on with Balayev’s taxi. Balayev suffered critical injuries and later succumbed to his injuries.
The Cruze driver was identified as 23-year-old Samantha Molina. Mollina and her female passenger both suffered serious injuries and were taken to a local hospital. Balayev’s passenger sustained minor injuries. There is no word on what caused the accident to occur at this time.
Police shut down the road for several hours while they conducted an investigation into the accident. Motorists were advised to avoid the area and to find an alternate route of travel if possible.
An investigation is ongoing at this time. There is no further information available.
