Placentia, CA – DUI Crash on Oglethorpe Ave. Claims Multiple Lives
Placentia, CA (January 26, 2023) – A deadly DUI crash claimed several lives on Wednesday, January 25th in Placentia. The accident happened around 8:45 p.m. on Orangethorpe Avenue at the intersection with South Melrose Street.
The Placentia Police Department, along with rescue officials, responded to the accident scene. According to a report, a man from Santa Ana was driving a Honda Civic when he ran a red light at the intersection. The Civic collided with a church van traveling in the opposite direction. Several passengers in the van were ejected. A man and a woman who were in the van died at the scene of the accident. A 10-year-old girl who was also a passenger in the van was rushed to a local hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries. Several other victims were hospitalized.
Following an investigation, police arrested the driver of the Civic. He was charged with driving under the influence and felony DUI. Additional charges are pending the outcome of an investigation. The man was not identified.
