Fatal Accidents in California

Fatal car accidents occur multiple times per day across California. Sadly, many fatal collisions will affect the lives of innocent victims and their loved ones. Last year, approximately 4,000 people lost their lives in crashes that took place in our state. The cause of every fatal accident will be closely investigated by police. The majority of deadly accidents occur due to driver negligence. This includes speeding, impairment, distraction, reckless driving, and failing to yield.

Following a deadly crash, family members may wonder what legal rights they have. Under California law, a victim’s next of kin can bring a wrongful death lawsuit against a negligent driver. Wrongful death cases must be filed within two years of the date of the accident. Relatives can seek compensation on behalf of their loved one, including lost wages, loss of consortium, funeral and medical bills, and other types of damages. While no amount of money will ever replace the loss of a family member, the compensation that you receive can help to offset some of your unexpected costs.
