Santa Clarita Pedestrian Accident

Pedestrian accidents in Los Angeles County take place every day and affect thousands of people each year. The statistics are sobering. In 2016, Los Angeles County had the most reported pedestrian accident fatalities of any county in the country. Since that time, thousands more pedestrians have been hurt or killed in local crashes. Further, according to statistics, more than 25 percent of pedestrian accidents will result in severe or critical injuries when the accident happens at speeds greater than 20 miles per hour. Since many pedestrian crashes occur on freeways or busy streets, it follows that a large number of these accidents will also take place at high speeds.

The devastating toll of a pedestrian accident is well-known. The crash can result in the sudden and tragic loss of a loved one but can also cause serious injuries that require costly and expensive medical treatment. The injuries can be disabling and require long-term care. This can place victims in a financial bind as they struggle to pay for the cost of expensive and often complex treatment.

There are some things that pedestrians can do to reduce the risks of an accident occurring. Many pedestrian crashes occur at night or in poorly-lit areas. If possible. pedestrians should avoid walking in the dark or wearing dark-colored clothing that makes it more difficult for drivers to see them. Additionally, a pedestrian should attempt to walk in crosswalks or other designated areas when possible.
