Los Angeles, CA (June 2, 2023) – Authorities responded to the scene of a fatal crash involving a pedestrian in Los Angeles. The accident took place around 11:15 p.m. on Wednesday, May 31st.
Officials were called to the scene on the 5 Freeway near Griffith Park and Zoo Drive. According to a report from the Los Angeles Police Department, 41-year-old Presilano Chavez was driving a tow truck in the southbound lanes of the 5 Freeway. Chavez parked the truck and was assisting the driver of a disabled vehicle when he was hit by a 2012 Nissan Versa.
Chavez suffered critical injuries and died at the crash scene. The driver of the Nissan, 33-year-old Rachel Fewings, remained at the scene. It was determined that neither alcohol nor drugs played a role in the crash. There is no word on whether any charges are expected to be filed at this time.
An investigation into the accident is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol’s Los Angeles Communications Center.
