Pedestrian Accidents in California

In a recent year, there were nearly 900 pedestrians killed and more than 14,000 injured as a result of crashes on California’s roadways. Between 2014 and 2018, pedestrian deaths rose by 26%, and between 2009 and 2018, approximately 7,500 pedestrians lost their lives in crashes that took place statewide. The dangers faced by pedestrians in California cannot be understated. More than 80% of all pedestrian accidents will end in injuries. To make matters worse, the injuries that are suffered are frequently serious in nature and will require intensive medical care. These injuries can take a long time to heal, in the best-case scenario, leading to many negative impacts on the lives of victims.

Under California law, victims and family members could be entitled to compensation in the aftermath of a pedestrian crash. This includes compensation for pain and suffering, medical bills, lost wages, funeral costs, and potentially more. Pedestrian accident cases are very complicated. Often there are issues of who was at fault or who caused the accident to occur. Drivers may try to claim that the pedestrian should be held responsible, thus jeopardizing the case. An experienced attorney should be hired in order to help. Attempting to handle a case on your own can result in a lesser settlement or even no settlement at all.
