Hesperia, CA - Woman, Unborn Child Killed in DUI Crash on Hwy. 395

Hesperia, CA (January 25, 2023) – Police in Hesperia were dispatched to the scene of a deadly crash on Saturday, January 21st. The accident took place around 11:40 p.m. on Highway 395 just north of Poplar Street.

According to a report from the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, a man was operating a Toyota Corolla northbound on Highway 395. The man’s wife, who was 35 weeks pregnant, was a passenger in the vehicle. At the same time, a 43-year-old man was operating a Ford Explorer in the opposite direction. The man, later identified as Eddie Escobedo, crossed the center line and collided head-on with the sedan driven by the man. The pregnant woman suffered critical injuries in the crash. She was rushed to a local hospital. Tragically, both the woman and her unborn child died from their injuries on the way to the hospital.

Following an investigation, police determined that Escobedo was impaired. He was charged with gross vehicular manslaughter and DUI and was booked into the West Valley Detention Center.

The crash remains under investigation. There is no further information available.
