Pedestrian Accidents in California
Pedestrians are among the most vulnerable crash victims on the roadway. The reason for this should be obvious: pedestrians have no protection from the serious impact of a collision. Pedestrian accidents take place in a split-second and leave the victim little time to avoid being struck by a vehicle. Unfortunately, the large majority of crashes leave pedestrians suffering from catastrophic injuries. Broken bones, head trauma, neck injuries, and even death are common outcomes in a California pedestrian accident. The cause of each pedestrian crash must be carefully investigated by police in order to determine how it occurred and who should be held legally responsible for the collision.
Under the law, pedestrians may be entitled to seek compensation if they have been hurt in a crash. Depending on the nature of the victim’s injuries, the claim for compensation may be very substantial. Too often, however, crash victims make certain mistakes that can jeopardize the value of their claims. They may try to negotiate with the insurance adjuster themselves, or they may make certain statements that hurt their case in the long run. Before you speak with an insurance adjuster, it is important to have a consultation with a Los Angeles pedestrian accident attorney.
