Los Angeles, CA – Bystander Killed During Police Chase on White Oak Ave.
Los Angeles, CA (February 16, 2023) – An officer with the Los Angeles Police Department was involved in a fatal collision on Thursday, February 16th. The accident happened around 12:30 a.m. on White Oak Avenue at the intersection with Roscoe Boulevard.
According to a report from the scene, police attempted to stop a vehicle in connection with a robbery. The driver fled the attempted traffic stop and led police on a chase. When the driver got to the intersection with Lindley Avenue, he ran a red light and crashed into a bystander’s vehicle. The driver of that vehicle, 19-year-old Erick Barbosa Guardado, suffered critical injuries and died at the scene. Two occupants of the fleeing vehicle then ran away from the scene on foot. The driver was later apprehended, but authorities are still searching for the passenger of the vehicle.
Police are investigating the accident and the chase at this time to determine whether the officer involved followed department policy. The accident is still under investigation. No further information is available.
