Long Beach, CA - One Killed, Nine Hospitalized Following Chase on PCH

Long Beach, CA (March 29, 2023) – Officials in Long Beach reported a deadly accident following a police chase on Tuesday, March 28th. The crash occurred just after 8:00 p.m. on the Pacific Coast Highway near 2nd Street.

According to authorities, police in Seal Beach tried to stop a 2006 silver Lexus sedan for a traffic violation. The car initially pulled over in response to law enforcement. However, when the officer returned to their vehicle, a passenger and the driver switched seats, and the car fled the scene, traveling northbound. The officer gave chase, continuing into Long Beach on the Pacific Coast Highway.

The Lexus was eventually involved in a crash with eight other cars while fleeing from authorities. According to a report, a woman in one of the other cars suffered critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at the scene. Eight other victims, including an infant, were hurt in the crash. All victims were taken to area hospitals to receive treatment for undisclosed injuries.

The Lexus driver, later identified as Chaz Lamar, 39, of Antioch, fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended by authorities following a brief pursuit. The identities of the victims have not been released at this time. Lamar is currently in custody and is facing numerous charges in connection with the chase and the crash.

The Long Beach Police Department is currently investigating at this time. No additional details have been released.
