Occupational Fatalities in California
Many people do not have to worry about their safety at work. This generally applies to individuals who work in offices and other white-collar settings. However, some jobs carry enhanced dangers and risk of injuries to workers. Fields such as law enforcement, construction, truck driving, and manufacturing all pose unique risks to employees. In these industries, it is not uncommon for employees to be exposed to dangerous and potentially life-threatening situations. These workers go to work each day knowing that they are putting their health and safety on the line to do their jobs.
In some instances, an on-the-job injury was entirely preventable. In the construction industry, there are strict building and safety regulations that must be followed by contractors who are working on a project. However, not all construction companies elect to follow these standards. Sometimes, the company is looking to cut its costs. Other times, the company hired a negligent supervisor who failed to ensure proper protocol was followed.
Regardless of the reason, innocent workers can be affected. In this instance, victims should be fully aware of their legal rights. California law allows injured victims or their family members to file claims when they have been affected by someone else’s negligence. Under California’s workers’ compensation laws, injured employees can seek compensation for lost past and future wages as a result of their injuries. The law is complicated, and it is important to enlist the help of a skilled and experienced lawyer if you have questions about your case.
