Riverside, CA – Two Pedestrians Struck and Killed in Crash on Van Buren Blvd.
Riverside, CA (June 26, 2023) – Officials in Riverside responded to the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident in Riverside on Sunday night, June 25th. The accident occurred around 11:50 p.m. at the intersection of Van Buren Boulevard and Challen Avenue.
According to a report from the scene, two males were walking on Van Buren Boulevard near Challen Avenue when they were hit by a pickup truck. The victims were found unresponsive at the scene and were later pronounced dead by authorities. Officials said that the victims were walking their dog at the time of the crash.
Police say that the accident happened when a 17-year-old male was driving a 2011 GMC at a high rate of speed. The driver was traveling southbound on Van Buren when he lost control of his truck and hit the pedestrians. The truck then hit a utility pole and came to rest. The driver was taken to a hospital with serious injuries.
Both victims were in their 20s and have not been identified at this time. It is unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the crash. The accident is under investigation at this time.
