Los Angeles, CA – UPDATE: Juan Areyan Identified in Pedestrian Fireworks Crash

Los Angeles, CA (July 5, 2023) – Officials in Los Angeles have identified the victim of a pedestrian accident that occurred earlier this week. The incident took place around 9:00 p.m. on Monday, July 3rd.

Police say that 36-year-old Juan Jose Areyan was on North Fries Avenue lighting fireworks when he was hit by a female driving an SUV. The woman was traveling at a high rate of speed when she struck Areyan. After being hit, Areyan was dragged approximately 85 feet before he fell from the vehicle. He was then struck by a second car. Areyan suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The SUV driver failed to stop at the crash scene, although the second driver did. Police are still searching for her at this time and are offering a reward for information leading to her identification and arrest.

The LAPD traffic division is still looking into the accident. There is no further information at this time.
